7 Things to Love About New York City

A bustling metropolis, New York City is known as the Big Apple. It is a center for finance, fashion, music, art, theatre, architecture, and everything possible under the sun.

Loaded with history, famous landmarks, and attractions, you will find something to do in every corner of NYC. Whether it is New York’s dynamic culture, diversity, or never-ending dining-out options, it is a place that you will fall in love with.

Here are seven things we love about New York City:

1. A City Where Dreams Are Made

NYC is a city that is overflowing with opportunities. It is a city that welcomes artists and entrepreneurs and people who see themselves as ordinary only to make them fall in love with themselves. It is a city that turns dreams into reality.

Coupled with hard work, honesty, resilience, and a little bit of luck, anyone can follow their passion. The hustle-bustle and energetic vibe in New York is proof of its creativity. This is where the American dream is still alive.

Co-owner of Williamsburg’s Wythe Hotel, Peter Lawrence, moved to New York in 1994. The city welcomed him warmly and allowed him to pursue his dreams. It kept him optimistic enough to not give up on his goals, and soon, he was able to become the co-owner of New York’s most famous hotel.

2. Unbelievably Diverse

New York is the most linguistically diverse city in the world. It whole-heartedly welcomed the 12 million immigrants who came through Ellis Island between the years 1892 and 1954. Home to all, NYC is wonderfully diverse.

Did you know that NYC is thought of as America’s “melting pot”? This is because about 36 percent of its population comes from other countries, and you’ll find a total of approximately 800 different languages being spoken here. Pretty cool, right?

Everyone in New York has their own story; an immigrant, native, resident, or student. Be prepared to be wowed by the talent each person you meet offers.

3. The Unparalleled Restaurants

What better proof of diversity than exploring places to eat and drink? Lucky for you, New York houses all cuisines so you’ll never find a reason to be bored.

The best part about New York is food from virtually every corner of the world. You’ll find Chao Thai in Elmhurst, New Asha in Staten Island for Sri Lankan, Tacos Matamoros in Sunset Park for Mexican, Malecon in Washington Heights for Dominican, Birds of a Feather in Williamsburg for Szechuan, and Beco in Williamsburg for Brazillian.

New York City has so much to offer; you could live here your entire life and still miss out on restaurants to dine at.

4. Incredible Art Scene

New York, the capital of the US, has housed over 55,000 artists for the longest time. The minute you enter NYC, you will feel like you have stepped into a land of creativity. The streets are littered with galleries that feature small collections of brilliant local artists.

You’ll find the internationally famous Museum of Modern Art here in New York, and the Neue Gallerie on 5th Avenue. Be ready to lose yourself in art the minute you step into these galleries.

Let’s not forget that NYC is home to some incredible theatre, music shows, and stand-up comedy on and off-Broadway. You can legitimately spend every weekend in the city watching a different Broadway show and never run out of options!

5. Easy Access

The NYC tunnels were built in the first half of the 20th century. Yet, you’ll find the subway stations in perfect condition. While interior architects may have the eye to notice the diverse architecture, it is a treat for the untrained eye too. The well-worn tunnels and multitudes of crowds portray a sense of possibility and motion that is easy to get sucked into.

One of the best things is the aerial view you get when you take off in a seaplane from the East River. New York, in all its glory, looks beautiful. The city lights, sunset, hundreds of minuscule people- you start to see NYC as the city that never sleeps.

6. Magnetic Pull

Hard to describe, but you’ll notice most New Yorkers talking about the city’s incredible energy. This infinite energy will be found in the streets, restaurants, bars, galleries- basically, any place you set foot in NYC.

The energy in New York is infectious. You could be having a horrible day, but one look at the ever-busy streets, smiling citizens, and motivation brimming from every nook and cranny will change your mood. As comforting as it can be, you can never get used to New York’s energy.

Home to so many brilliant people, NYC will always make you feel overwhelmed, challenged, motivated, and energetic, all at once. You will always feel the need to dive into the sea of people and strive harder to achieve your dreams. In this city, you can never be sad or bored.

7. Home to the Best Cultural Attractions

How can any article about NYC not mention the Statue of Liberty? This symbol of freedom was given to the United States by France in 1886 as an honor of friendship during the French Revolution. It has become a symbol of acceptance, embracing immigrants who come to the United States to search for a better life.

Another iconic representation of New York is the Empire State Building, which opened during the Great Depression in 1931. Its architecture is a representation of the Art Deco era. No one can leave New York without visiting this fantastic, legendary structure at least once.

While you may face a lot of waiting time, the best way to counter this is by buying tickets to the observation decks beforehand.
